Cloudstone Artist Residency (AiR)
Cloudstone AiR is an artist residency in the hills of Mangalore, Tasmania. Located in a freestanding studio and gallery, we host one artist at a time, once a month.
While the studio is set up primarily for painting and drawing, any visual artist that can make use of the space is welcome to apply and this year we have hosted painters, weavers and sculptors. The residency is rural and self catered, so bringing your own car is advised.
We accept applications year round via email, subject to availability, with a callout for expressions of interest occurring September/October for the year ahead.
Pricing is $1900/2 weeks or $2400/3 weeks. A 50% deposit is required to secure your booking.

FAQ:
- What is the space like? The residency is in a two storey building and the property is steep. Check our instagram for a studio tour and information & we’ll provide you with a PDF document with more information before you visit.
- What are the assessment criteria? We will be reviewing proposals based on clarity of the proposal, the quality of the work, the value to the individual, and the excitement of the ideas. We will be aiming to fill spots with a diversity of established and emerging artists from different geographical and cultural backgrounds.
- Who reviews applications? The applications are reviewed by the owners of Cloudstone and invited guests.
- What should I bring? We are in a rural location so a car is recommended. Bring materials for your project, and groceries for meals.
- Are visitors allowed? Our accommodation is set up with 1 queen sized bed. While friends or partners are welcome to visit for weekends or short stays, an additional 50% rate will be applied to full length stays for extra guests. If alternative sleeping arrangements are required, they must be organised by participants.
- Who are we? Alongside their architectural practice Up to Something, Keith Westbrook and Madeline Sewall run Cloudstone AiR at their property outside of Hobart in the hills of Mangalore; an artist residency dedicated to nurturing creative practice and interdisciplinary exchange.
